UMS Locks Up Rising Star Schulner for Two Years

Universal Media Studios is betting on David Schulner, cutting a two-year overall deal with the scribe. Schulner has spent the past season as a co-exec producer on the NBC/UMS actioner “Trauma,” which is not expected to return for a soph sesh in the fall. Schulner grabbed the biz’s attention in 2007 when a drama pilot he wrote on spec sold for big bucks to Fox and attracted Shawn Ryan as showrunner. “The Oaks” told the stories of three families who lived in the same house in different time periods. The project never got on the air — the pilot was rushed into production in advance of the WGA strike that began in November 2007 — but it put Schulner on the map among drama scribes.
