Add One More Project to Abrams’ Prodigious List
J.J. Abrams has his hand in a lot of different projects — “Mission: Impossible IV,” a “Cloverfield” sequel, a “Star Trek” sequel, “The Invisible Woman,” “Micronauts,” and untitled earthquake and diamond heist projects — so, he’s pretty much a producing-directing machine. Now he’s added “Boilerplate: History’s Mechanical Marvel,” a graphic novel-picture book hybrid by Paul Guinan and Anina Bennett, the creators of the comic book series “Heartbreakers,” that has been picked up by Paramount for an adaptation to be produced by Abrams and his Bad Robot company. The novel “purports to tell the story of the world’s first robot, who, in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, fought alongside Teddy Roosevelt and Lawrence of Arabia, journeyed to the South Pole and was involved in the silent movie business before disappearing on the battlefields of World War I.”
