Bradley Cooper And Jennifer Lawrence To Reteam In “Serena” ?

Hopefully you like the chemistry Bradley Cooper and Jennifer Lawrence display onscreen in “The Silver Linings Playbook”! The pair of seemingly mismatched onscreen paramours will team again for an adaptation of “Serena,” a 2008 novel about timber magnates and their iron-fisted rule of North Carolina. Based on Ron Rash’s book, “Serena” follows George and Serena Pemberton (Cooper and Lawrence), a pair of young newlyweds who turn “War of the Roses” on each other when Serena finds out she can’t have children of her own; an issue complicated by the fact that George has an illegitimate son. Cooper and Lawrence will be seen together onscreen this November in “Playbook,” an adaption of Matthew Quick’s quirky novel about a recently released mental patient (Cooper) and the girl who lives next door to his mother, which is directed by David O. Russell.

With Stars Getting Their Pay Days Set, “Hangover 3″ Looks Like A Go

Warner Bros. is going to pay a hefty bar tab to get another “Hangover.” Dealmaking on the studio’s third installment in the raunchy comedy franchise is wrapping up after dragging on for months due in part to the salary demands of its three stars. Sources close to the negotiations say Bradley Cooper, Zach Galifianakis and Ed Helms are presenting a united front and asking for $15 million each (against backend) to reprise their roles, and they now are likely to get it. Warners hopes the next film, a Los Angeles-based story that will deviate from the forgotten-debauchery formula of the first movies, can shoot this summer and be ready for a Memorial Day 2013 release.

CBS Uses Its “Words” To Pick Up Sundance Flick

“The Words” has sold to CBS Films after a heated bidding war that lasted until 4 a.m. on Sunday. The project from directors and screenwriters Brian Klugman and Lee Sternthal was sold for for about $2 million with a $1.5 million P&A commitment. Interest in the Bradley Cooper-starring literary thriller was strong after it was shown at a packed P&I screening on Saturday morning. A tentative fall release is planned. Film centers on a hot young author (played by Cooper) who plagiarizes from a forgotten manuscript; the film also features Jeremy Irons, Dennis Quaid, Olivia Wilde, Zoe Saldana and Ben Barnes.

Bradley Cooper’s “Paradise Lost” Hits A Rough Patch

Apparently, faced with dwindling box-office returns and increasing costs to produce and market a high-priced movie, Hollywood studio executives have gotten the memo that belt-tightening is en vogue. Like Warner Bros. did with “The Lone Ranger,” Legendary Pictures has halted the Bradley Cooper-led effects-heavy 3D spectacle “Paradise Lost” just one month before shooting was scheduled to begin in Australia. “Paradise Lost” – an adaptation of the John Milton classic poem; yep – isn’t being scrapped just yet. Apparently the budget sailed over $120 million and producers will try to cut that number down by 10 or 15 percent.

It Was Inevitable: Soderbergh Says Uncle To “U.N.C.L.E.”

Maybe it’s a good thing Steven Soderbergh is taking a break from filmmaking. It was Nov. 17, 2010 when it was first reported Soderbergh and George Clooney would team for an update of ’60s spy series “The Man From U.N.C.L.E.” for Warner Bros. A year and a day later, the same site reports that Soderbergh has left the project. It seems this project was mostly doomed once Clooney had to bow out because of a back injury. Matt Damon, Johnny Depp, Bradley Cooper, Channing Tatum, Michael Fassbender and Joel Kinnaman, among others, circled the project but never came on board. Also, Warner Bros. apparently came in with a $60 million budget number for the film last week, which was the breaking point for Soderbergh, who apparently felt the continent-spanning adventure needed more money to produce.

Okay, So Now Bradley Cooper Will Not (Repeat, NOT) Be Playing Napoleon Solo

Last week came reports that Joel Edgerton was up for one of the two lead roles in Steven Soderbergh’s “The Man From U.N.C.L.E.,” presumably opposite Bradley Cooper who had been offered the part of Napoleon Solo. About that: TheWrap states that Cooper is no longer in negotiations for the part, meaning Warner Bros. is back at square one with “U.N.C.L.E.” Not saying, just saying: this is becoming the male version of “Pride and Prejudice and Zombies.” That’s not a good thing.

“Paradise Lost” Reunites The Team From “Dark City”

Rufus Sewell is joining up with director Alex Proyas again, having last worked together on “Dark City,” to star in “Paradise Lost.” Sewell joins the adaptation of the epic 17th century English poem by John Milton as Samael, Lucifer’s partisan who urges him to begin the rebellion in heaven. The movie is produced by Vincent Newman under his Vincent Newman banner along with Legendary Entertainment’s Thomas Tull and Jon Jashni. The cast already boasts a male-skewed heavyweight cast which includes Bradley Cooper, Ben Walker, Casey Affleck, Sam Reid and Djimon Hounsou.

It Appears We May Have Our “Man From U.N.C.L.E.”

If you’re an A-list actor who wasn’t considered to replace George Clooney in “The Man From U.N.C.L.E.” then you may not actually be on the A-list. From Johnny Depp to Matt Damon to Ryan Gosling to Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Warner Bros. discussed the lead role of Napoleon Solo in the Steven Soderbergh-directed reboot of the ’60s television series with a reported 20-plus names. That game of Hollywood roulette has apparently landed on a possibility: Bradley Cooper. Cooper has been offered the leading role, and he’ll likely accept “considering how hard his team at CAA worked to position him for the coveted part.”

Chris Tucker Might Be Ready For A Double Comeback

According to reports, Chris Tucker is in talks for not one, but two high-profile roles. The picky comedian is in talks to co-star in the David O. Russell–directed “The Silver Linings Playbook” with Bradley Cooper and Jennifer Lawrence, as well as “Neighborhood Watch” opposite Ben Stiller, Vince Vaughn and Jonah Hill. Tucker — who hasn’t appeared onscreen since “Rush Hour 3″ in 2007, and has only made “Rush Hour” films since 1998 — would play Cooper’s best friend in “Playbook,” an institutionalized free spirit who frequently escapes to visit his recently released pal. In “Watch,” Tucker would tackle the role of a recent divorcee hoping the local neighborhood watch — which counts Stiller, Vaughn and Hill as members and uncovers a plot to destroy the world — will get him out of the house.

Bradley Cooper Is Out Of “The Crow” Remake

Bradley Cooper has pulled out of Relativity Media’s remake of “The Crow,” TheWrap has confirmed. Cooper was set to play the lead role of Eric Draven, but a couple of other movies — “The Silver Linings Playbook” and “Paradise Lost” — bumped up against “The Crow’s” filming schedule, an individual familiar with the project told TheWrap. Relativity is now looking for a replacement actor to play Eric Draven and expects to begin filming during the first quarter of 2012.

Heads Up for the Plot of “Hangover III”

To the surprise of no one, “The Hangover Part III” continues to be a thing. “They want to do a ‘Hangover III,’” Zach Galifianakis says. “I’m getting fricking phone calls already.” Per the hirsute star, the third film would potentially revolve around Phil and Stu (Bradley Cooper and Ed Helms) breaking Galifianakis’ Alan out of a mental institution.

Paramount will co-finance Liman’s “Luna” with David Ellison’s Skydance Pictures and New Regency. The film — about “renegade scientists who build a spaceship from spare parts to steal an energy source from the moon” — has yet to cast up, but Liman has met with Bradley Cooper, Chris Evans and Andrew Garfield, among others, for roles.

Cooper’s Using His “Words,” Getting Wilde

Olivia Wilde is joining the dramatic thriller “The Words,” starring Bradley Cooper. The two, by the way, just happen to be dating in real life, or so the celeb buzz has it. They won’t have any scenes together, however. The film is about a successful writer who learns he has a high price to pay for stealing another man’s work. Wilde will play a character who’s “key” to what unfolds next. Ben Barnes, John Hannah, J.K. Simmons and French actress Nora Arnezeder have also signed onto the cast, which includes Jeremy Irons, Zoe Saldana and Dennis Quaid. “Tron: Legacy” writers Brian Klugman and Lee Sternthal will make their directorial debut with the film. Their script appeared on the Black List of the hottest unproduced screenplays.

Bradley Cooper’s Feeling Cocky, Taking On John Milton

So here’s a weird one: Alex Proyas will be directing an adaptation of John Milton’s 17th-century poem “Paradise Lost” — the epic story of the war in heaven between archangels Michael and Lucifer, including the temptation of Adam and Eve — and Bradley Cooper is in early talks to take the role of Lucifer. This will be a big fanboy tentpole film for Legendary Pictures, and will be crafted as an action vehicle that will include aerial warfare, possibly shot in 3D (of course it will!). Talk about adaptation. Milton must be turning in his grave. A lot of people have had a hand in this one: Stuart Hazeldine developed the main draft of the screenplay, originally written by Byron Willinger and Philip de Blasi. Lawrence Kasdan did a polish as well as Ryan Condal, who delivered the most recent draft.

Add Mediator to Ryan Seacrest’s Resumé

Ryan Seacrest helped broker a deal between Relativity Media and Clear Channel (in partnership with his KIIS-FM radio show) to cross-promote major film releases over the next year. Their first collaboration, Bradley Cooper’s “Limitless,” opened No.1 at the box office. To promote the film, interviews with the stars aired on Clear Channel radio stations, stations played music hours that indicated ‘you’re listening to the Z100 limitless music hour sponsored by “Limitless,” and there were social media integration on station Facebook pages offering listeners the chance to win Limitless music; rich media overlays featuring Bradley Cooper walking onto home pages to promote the film; countdown clocks both on-air and on-line to provide high frequency reminders to the listeners and more.
